RE: !!!ATTENTION ALL TC OWNERS!!!

Never weighed my camper by itself, when wet and ready to camp. But with the truck under it the weight is right at 10,000 lbs. total. My trucks GVWR is 9,200 lbs????? Likes: Twin bed option. 6'10" headroom in the camper. Remote control electric jacks. Short length on my regular cab truck under 21'. 85 Watt solar panel I installed. Storage large enough for my 1000 Watt Yamaha generator. With extra gas. Wal-Mart memory foam toppers on the twin beds. At 6'7" tall I love the bathroom I can stand up in. No basement in the camper so only three steps to get in the camper. Yet heated waste tanks. Auto change over on the LP tanks. Dislikes: Skirts on both sides have holes in the aluminum siding from corrosion. Truck Campers get very small on rainy days. More likes than dislikes and that with about 450 nights in the camper so far.

RE: Outfitter to the Outback...of Utah, many pictures

Thanks for posting your photos, Southern Utah is a place like no other. Thanks also for respecting those ruins. 800 year old hand prints can't be replaced. Yet if everyone just looks and takes pictures they may last another 800 years. Thanks for only looking, taking pictures and sharing with us.

RE: Campers could be made better

A little more explanation; Boeing has always wanted it's wings to fail at over 150% load rating. Under 150% is felt to be not strong enough. Much over 150% the wing is felt to be too heavy. Excess weight means less cargo capacity so you can see it's a balancing job. But that's why they test them. Getting it right the first time makes everyone very happy. Even old retired farts.

Campers could be made better

How much testing can the price of a truck camper support. I'm glad they don't have to fly. click on the wing test Yea I know, this is a lame attempt to plug my old employer. Even though I'm retired what goes on at Boeing is still interesting. That is a composite wing being tested however.

RE: Fuel prices dropping, camping increasing?

Just got back from your Oregon coast and yes fuel prices were going south fast. Planning a trip south after the first of the year and if fuel prices keep going south it will allow travels further south.

RE: TC Mileage - how is good is yours?

Hi there- We drove about 3500 miles last month, Michigan to western Wyoming. average overall was 14.7. We have an F-350, PSD, 810 Snowriver camper. The key is the speed, of course. Keep it under 60 mph and the mileage is MUCH better. Headwind is a problem and to a lesser extent, the mountains. This truck gets over 17 mpg without the camper, if you watch the speed. It is a 4WD, so that might hurt the mileage a bit but we really can't complain. We had the big Ford gas engine in the truck before this one in a 2WD. We got 10 mpg if we were lucky! We starting staying off the interstates, it makes it much easier to drive 55 or so. We have a hard time staying at that speed when everyone flying by us is doing 75. If it makes you feel any better or not your 14.7 mpg using $3 a gallon diesel comes out to 20 cents a mile cost to drive. Your old truck at 10 mpg with $2 a gallon gasoline comes out to 20 cents per mile cost to drive. It's going to be hard to pay for that diesel engine with fuel savings.

RE: TC Mileage - how is good is yours?

MPG is interesting but makes it hard to compare diesel to gas or rigs to rigs. Try taking the price of fuel say $3.00 per gallon for diesel and $2.00 for gas now divide the price of a gallon of your rigs fuel by your rigs MPG to give a Cost Per Mile or CPM. Cost to drive a rig for a mile is something we can all compare. I'll start my rig averages 13 mpg when loaded for RVing so with diesel at about $3.00 a gallon it costs me 23 cents for every mile driven. $3.00/13=.2307692 CPM

RE: Covered her up today

Next week I will cover the camper :B Seriously a sad day I wont see her errrr the camper for a few months :( Yea and I bet your boat won't see much use for several months ether. We lived in Green River for 4 years so have a little experience with Wyoming winters. The fact that your their shows your tougher than me. Wyoming Summers and Falls can be great. Spring was too windy in Green River for my liking. Just returned from a week in the camper on the Oregon coast a little wet but still mild and very beautiful. Very few other travelers and low diesel prices were other benefits.

RE: Bigfoot closes

Been traveling in the old TC so news of Bigfoot closing is new to me and sad. I qualify as a big one at 6'7" and 260 lbs. So I would never buy a Bigfoot camper as they are just too small (6'4"headroom) for me. But Bigfoot just introduced a new motorhome with 7' headroom then they close. Just as I'm thinking about a little bigger Class C. Say it it's so. By the way traveling in a truck camper is getting easer can you say under 2 dollars for gas and under 3 dollars for diesel. I'm here to tell you the Oregon/Washington coasts are still beautiful.

RE: RORO truck camper to Europe

Will you be required to remove all personal items from vehicle for RORO shipping? Not sure, The quote contains a clause about "goods" (personal or otherwise)if found then a 25% surcharge is added. The quote also states: "LPG and Gasoline must be removed". As well as "The storage tanks might need a cleaning certificate". This link is one I have for renting or buying an RV in Europe. BW Campers

RORO truck camper to Europe

Weymard, our new member posting pictures of France has my interest peaked. So I sent a RORO rate request to ACL. (Atlantic Container Line AB) RORO= Roll on Roll off, they take your rig drive it on to the ship in Baltimore secure it then drive it off to you in Antwerp about 3 weeks later. My T/C is 21' long X 8' wide X 12' high, Weighs just under 10,000 lbs. The Quote was for $5,704.10 US dollars one way. Being retired round trip shipping of almost $12,000 dollars is daunting. Yet if we stayed a full year in Europe we could spread the cost out for two calendar years at about $33 dollars a day. Much less than staying in hotels for a year. Costs would have to account for some RV park stays as well. Eating most meals in the camper we might be able to live in Europe for about the same cost as we live traveling here. Fuel costs are much higher in Europe but distances are shorter. So total fuel costs could be about the same as here if less driving more camping was done. In 2007 my wife and I went on a dream trip through Scandinavia and into Russia. The three week wonderful trip set us back almost $14,000 just for comparison. At the time we felt the experience was well worth the money for a once in a lifetime trip. But I'm still kicking and have this strong itch to see more of Europe. Yes I know we will still need Air fare for the wife and myself to get to Europe and home again. Maybe we should stay two years!!! Can someone talk some sense into me?

RE: Truck Camper Living

We lived in our Lance 915 for 4 months between selling and buying homes. First of November to the end of February 2006/2007. Stayed in the rainy Seattle area the whole time. Saw lots of movies and went out to dinner often. Wife was very happy to get into our new home, I was still happy in the camper. I have spent up to two months in the camper traveling alone and have always had plenty of room. Just missed the better half. Many times I thought more room would be nice but so far the downsides of larger RV's have kept me happy with my truck & camper. Like others have said try it before you buy it. We are proof you can sell a home put the money in the bank then live in a truck camper and look for another one or not, your choice.

RE: NEWBIE FROM FRANCE

That comes out to between $5.37 and $5.76 per gallon for diesel if my math is right. A little steep for us I just filled up last night at Flying J in Tacoma WA. for $2.95 a gallon.

RE: lance storm windows

Can anyone with experience say if the new Lance plastic windows work better in cold weather? Lance 1040 Nothern Lite uses them as well. Look at the truck camper

RE: Warning for perspective Lance/Norcold purchasers

For those who keep missing the point of the original poster let me take a run at explaining. Many devices do not work well at altitude! From copiers to 2000 HP electric motors. Having lived and worked at 6000 to 8000 feet in Wyoming we had altitude problems with many devices. Not many people living at sea level even think about high altitude problems before they experience them. A camper mfg. and a RV refrigerator mfg. SHOULD realize their products might be used at higher elevations and should work or be modified so they can work. If a camper mfg. puts an appliance in their product that can not work where that Camper can be expected to go then the mfg. has made a mistake. It’s no sin to point that mistake out to others. Lance has made mistakes and so have I. I love my Lance and think it is the best camper on the market BUT I don’t think it’s perfect. By the way I have only used my camper a few times at elevations above 5000 feet and the refrigerator worked fine but it was so cold outside it might have been warming the food.

RE: Lance 915 Closet strap issue

We have a 915 and had your same problem. So I started storing the Counter top extension under the foot of the cabover bed. Realized we never used it so now it's stored in the garage and the wife doesn’t even know it's not in the camper. Disclamer: Ours is a 2004 915 and our counter extension looks smaller than the one in your photo. I think older 915's have a little more unaided counter space than newer ones.

RE: 150 watt electric heater

150W at 12 Volts = 12.5 amps = small amount of heat for large battery drain. 150W at 120 volts = 1.25 amps = inverter draw of over 12.5 amps even larger battery drain for very little heat.
